Connecting Google Tag Manager (GTM) with GTM Assistant

After installing the GTM Assistant app on your Shopify store, the next step is to connect your Google Tag Manager (GTM) account. This connection enables GTM Assistant to manage and deploy tracking tags seamlessly, allowing you to monitor customer behavior and conversions across multiple platforms without manual setup.

Step-by-Step Guide to Connect GTM with GTM Assistant

Step 1: Log in to GTM Assistant and Go to Settings

  1. Open your Shopify admin panel and navigate to Apps.
  2. Select GTM Assistant from your installed apps list to open the app’s dashboard.
  3. In the GTM Assistant dashboard, find the Settings or Account Setup section.
(This is where you’ll link your Google Tag Manager account.)

Note: You’ll need a Google account to proceed. If you haven’t created a GTM account yet, refer to the next section for instructions.

Step 2: Sign in with Your Google Account

  1. In the Settings section, click on Connect to Google Account. A Google sign-in prompt will appear.
  2. Select the Google account associated with your GTM account and authorize GTM Assistant to access your Google Tag Manager.

Pro Tip: Use the same Google account that has access to your GTM container to avoid connection issues.

Step 3: Select Your GTM Container

  1. After logging in, GTM Assistant will prompt you to select the GTM container you want to connect to.
  2. From the list of GTM containers, select the one that you’ve set up for your Shopify store.
  3. Click Confirm to link the GTM Assistant with this specific container.

Note:
If you don’t see your container in the list, ensure you’ve added the GTM code snippets to your Shopify store as shown in the GTM setup section.

Step 4: Authorize and Enable Automatic Tag Management

  1. Once you’ve selected your container, GTM Assistant will request permission to manage tags on your behalf.
  2. Review the permissions requested, then click Authorize or Allow.
  3. GTM Assistant will confirm the connection, and your GTM account is now successfully linked with the app.

What’s Next?

With your GTM account connected, GTM Assistant is now ready to manage and deploy tags on your Shopify store. You can proceed to add and configure various tracking tags, such as:

  • Google Analytics
  • Meta Pixel
  • Twitter Pixel

These can be managed directly from the GTM Assistant dashboard.

Tip: Once connected, most tracking setups become automated. GTM Assistant will handle the configurations for Google-based tags (like Google Analytics and Google Ads) without requiring further manual input.
